Community Gardens – Take 2
Teaching young families how to have fresh produce at their doorstep and fresh to pick lettuces for their meals.
In the middle of March 2019 Energise Ōtaki showed young mothers that it is easy to grow lettuces and herbs just using a bucket or a bag. We provided the seedlings and soil and explained how to create a good planting environment for the lettuces and how important the watering is to ensure that they grow well.

It was great fun for all to plant their buckets and the first fresh salads have been enjoyed. We are now in the planning process with the mothers to create a bigger raised garden behind the Birthright House encouraging them to grow other vegetables and to later watch their children pick and enjoy fresh carrots and take more greens home.
