The Ōtaki Curtain Bank is an initiative of Energise Ōtaki in partnership with the Sustainability Trust in Wellington, supported by the Kapiti Coast District Council and the Citizens Advice Bureau Ōtaki.
Households with a Community Services Card can apply to get lined curtains for their home. These are made from up-cycled pre-loved curtains and lined to make them thermally efficient, an important step towards a healthy home and reduced power bills.
Energise Ōtaki helps applicants with the measurement, providing curtain tracks and hanging the curtains if needed. Donations of curtains and material we collect is taken to Wellington where volunteers create the new curtains.
Since 2016, Energise Ōtaki volunteers have helped over 230 families with over 750 pairs of curtains.
