On Saturday 12th December we hosted a very successful Bike Giveaway. The sun turned up to shine, and we brought along all the pre-requested bikes ready to match to their recipient. We gave out 50 bikes in total as well as 40 helmets, and have a few more lined up to give away for those who couldn’t collect on the day. Thanks to everyone who has donated us bikes, that allowed these to be given out. We had another 20 bikes donated on the day ready to repair and give away to someone else in the new year. Also a huge thank you to our volunteers for helping on the day and prepping the bikes beforehand.
We will host more bike giveaways but you can also email us at otakibikespace@gmail.com to request a bike, or arrange donating a bike before another event. You can also donate to this project by going to energise.otaki.net.nz/helping/ to help us purchase expendables like inner tubes to fix up more bikes. If you have bicycle repair knowledge and a few spare hours we would love some more volunteers – get in contact!
