This weekend, April 26th and 27th 2019, is Ōtaki College’s 60th Reunion Weekend (you can register here) and we thought it would be a good opportunity to share this cool video that was made a couple of years ago celebrating XŌtaki (the Ōtaki College Alumni), Ōtaki College, and Energise Ōtaki’s work together to relocate some of the solar thermal panels from the Ōtaki Pool to the pool at the College.

The costs for the setup have been generously donated by XŌtaki alumni, and local experts in their field, including Energise Ōtaki members. KCDC, EECA, and the Ministry of Education have also been amazing support.

Heating the College pool with the sun has meant:

  • low/ virtually no on-going costs to heat the pool, and
  • increased use of the pool by the students and College groups.

Energise Ōtaki is a cool organisation creating some neat local opportunities and new ways of doing things – the thermal panels relocated to the College pool is one of them, or the Solar Array at the College that is giving scholarships “from the Sun”. You might know Energise Ōtaki from the Ōtaki Curtain Bank, or Community Gardens, or other initiatives. We regularly update our facebook page and website, and are always keen to korero (talk) about possibilities to explore. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 12th June, 2019 at 6pm at Ōtaki College.
