Bringing community gardens to the people!

Energise Ōtaki is taking community gardening to the people. We’re following the idea that home-grown food promotes healthy eating and saves money along the way.

As a first step ‘tomato plants in a bucket’ are given to families, allowing children to harvest them on their door step.

Next we will teach young families how to grow food in a bag; which is possible even in the smallest space.

And finally, the concept of a bigger community garden could help to support struggling families in the community by offering locally grown, fresh and cheap vegetables.

It’s about taking a holistic approach and helping our community thrive, at the same time creating a social space to make new connections.
