Nau mai, haere mai! Come one, come all!

We meet on the last Thursday of every month at the “Supper Room” (the Dr. Gertrude Atmore Supper Room, on the corner of Main & Aotaki Streets, Ōtaki).

3pm – 5pm

1: Presentation and Discussion:

The possibilities for Ōtaki; sharing a first hand account of Wildpoldsried in Germany

Presentation by David Rumsey

The topic is the visit David made to the small town of Wildpoldsried in Germany, in 2013.
The town has adopted many strategies for generating renewable power, optimising the use of
natural resources within their district, adopted “Smart Grid” technologies, tested electric vehicles,
created a district heating scheme using waste heat and built a “Natural” wastewater treatment
system.

The success of these measures has become internationally recognised, and an “Eco Tourism”
industry has been established in the town, which brings in visitors and income, and has required the
construction of a hotel in the town. Visitors have included Al Gore, Tom Cruise and the Mayor of
Fukushima.
